Website monitoring doesn't have to be complicated. In this guide, you'll go from zero to fully monitored in under 2 minutes. Here's exactly how.
Step 1: Create Your Free Account
Head to WebMon's signup page and create an account. The free plan includes 5 monitors with 3-minute check intervals — enough for most personal and small business sites. No credit card is needed.
Step 2: Add Your First Monitor
Once logged in, click Add Monitor and enter your website URL. WebMon supports several monitor types:
- HTTP/HTTPS — Standard uptime monitoring with response time tracking
- Keyword — Check if specific text appears (or doesn't appear) on a page
- DNS — Monitor your DNS records for unauthorized changes
For most websites, start with an HTTP monitor. WebMon will automatically:
- Track response times and TTFB
- Monitor your SSL certificate expiry
- Detect server software and CDN
- Record redirect chains
Step 3: Configure Alert Settings
Navigate to Alerts in the sidebar to set up your preferred notification channels:
- Email — Enabled by default. Get notified at your account email.
- Telegram — Connect your Telegram account for instant mobile alerts.
- Push Notifications — Browser push notifications for real-time alerts on desktop or mobile.
You can also customize:
- How many consecutive failures before alerting (to avoid false positives)
- Quiet hours when you don't want to be disturbed
- Which monitor events trigger notifications (down, up, SSL expiry, etc.)
Step 4: Add More Monitors
With your first monitor running, add the rest of your sites:
- Your main website
- Staging or development environments
- API endpoints
- Landing pages
- Client websites you manage
Pro tip: Use tags to organize monitors by client, project, or environment. This makes it easy to filter and manage large numbers of monitors.
Step 5: Set Up Security Scanning (Optional)
For each HTTP monitor, you can enable:
- Content Security Scanning — Detects malware, phishing, and defacement patterns
- Security Headers Compliance — Grades your security headers from A+ to F
- WHOIS Monitoring — Tracks domain registration changes and expiry
These features run automatically alongside your uptime checks at no extra cost.
Step 6: Create a Status Page (Optional)
Share your uptime with clients or users by creating a public status page:
- Go to Profile → Status Page
- Select which monitors to display
- Share the generated URL with stakeholders
Status pages show real-time status, recent incidents, and uptime history.
What Happens When Something Breaks
When WebMon detects an issue:
- Your monitor status changes to Down (red)
- You receive an instant alert via your configured channels
- WebMon continues checking and will notify you again when the site recovers
- The incident is logged in your monitor's check history with full details
You're Done
That's it — your websites are now being monitored 24/7. You'll know about any issues within minutes, often before your users even notice. If you need to monitor more than 5 sites, check out our paid plans starting at $5/month.
